Quotable Sunday

Smiles and Laughter:

Quotes have always made me think of my father and always will, this is one my dad loved:
"He who has achieved success has worked well, laughed often and loved much."

~Elbert Hubbard

Your legacy lives on dad, here they are.

The laughter of adults was always very different from the laughter of children. The former indicated a recognition of the familiar, but in children it came from the shock of the new. ~Elizabeth Hardwick

My kids are the 2 in front on the laps, the others are my brother's girls, ages 9, 8, 5 and 2. Boy is my brother in trouble!

Everytime you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing. ~Mother Teresa

And I started smiling too.

Focus Friday (or Saturday)

Focus Friday

Thank you Ellen from Thrifty & Chic Mom For sponsoring the Focus Friday!

My week was just o.k. I didn't get my number one done, which was to work on intamacy and spending more time with hubby. I did make my son an eye appointment which will be in March, I didn't get the tires rotated, but I did get 3 blog posts done. So that is 50% for the week, I'll take it!

This week:

  1. Back to working on keeping me and hubby's relationship close. Our work schedules haven't clicked for having a date day yet, but they will soon.
  2. Clean both bathrooms
  3. Vacum the living room and kitchen
  4. Get the island in the kitchen cleaned off. I have a love/hate relationship with my island. I love the extra work space, but what good is it when it just collects all of the junk from the week?
  5. Sort through the huge amount of clothes we received for my son this week, see what we are keeping and what we are passing on to 2 other families (yes, we received that much! I could dress probably 3 boys in a size 3T with what we got).
  6. Be on time to work at least 3 days this week. Sounds bad I know, but I am now dropping the kids off at 2 different daycare/preschools 3 days a week, and did I mention that I have to be at work by 7:00 am? so this is a reminder to manage my time better in the mornings.
  7. At work, find my desk this week! I threatened the supervisors that they couldn't put anything else on my desk until I found it (joking of course)

Sounds like a huge list I know, but most of it is routine, so it is managable. Hope you all had a great week and good luck with this one!!

Random Tuesday Thoughts

randomtuesday

I have seen this button on a few blogs lately and thought I might join in on this one. The original comes from The Un Mom, but I picked it up actually from Sprite's Keeper, Us and Them, and Mommy's Escape 6.0 who probabally don't even know I read their blogs in the first place. If you don't your should check them out, they are all awesome! (Hey am I getting better at linky love or what?)

The idea I guess is to take all of these little thoughts floating around in you head that are not quite important enough to become a long drawn out blog post, but things you just can't let go. I guess for me it also gives me a topic to blog about seeing as how I am new at this blogging thing and all, so here goes.

Take all the hugs that are offered, even if you are blogging at the time.

I wish I had a way to record all the random thoughts floating around in my head as I drive, if I did then this post would be cake to write, I don't however so now I am going to have to see if I can remember any of them from the last week.

If you have a good in-home licensed daycare be thankful. We do, and I am. This comes up this week because my daughter started preschool at a daycare center yesterday, and the place is packed with kids (at the proper level of teacher/kid ratio, I checked). I keep wondering how do they keep track of everyone? How is she going to learn anything? But on the other hand, at our inhome daycare she was at the top level of what our provider could give. So it was a good move but I guess any change when it comes to my kids just tends to freak me out!

Never underestimate the power of siblings, Little Brother sat at daycare yesterday morning and just cried quietly because he missed his sister! The visual picture of that just makes me so sad. He is a sensitive boy and this is the first time he has been without his sister at the daycare. He will be o.k as he has 2 other boys his own age to play with and now his sister won't be bossing him around anymore.

In the spirit of giving, I offer you this story: I have always been happy to pass on clothes that my children have outgrown. I save the things that are in good shape to pass on. I found a little girl who's aunt (great aunt actually) I work with that had a need for my daughters clothes. Working mom, divorced family not alot of money so the clothes were greatly appreciated. Before now we had never received hand me down clothes for my boy, we just didn't know anyone that had a boy just enough older than our son to get clothes from. Well this same lady that I work with has a daughter who has 2 sons, yesterday she sent clothes to us! We now have enough 3T and 4T clothes to just about keep my kid dressed for another 2 years, great stuff, great condition with even a few Cars and Spider Man items thrown in (to the delight of my son). I have always been big on saying "what comes around, goes around", in this case so true!

Well, this is as random as I am going to get this Tuesday, as it is now Wednesday morning I think I will go ahead and get this posted now.

Focus Friday

Focus Friday

Thank you Ellen from Thrifty & Chic Mom For sponsoring the Focus Friday! If you are looking for some frugal tips visit her blog (and some fun giveaways too). She has a great post this week on being Frugal by Necessity.

I have had a great time with Focus Friday even though I don't always get my tasks done. It actually does keep me more focused on my use of time and priorities of what I want to get done. So in saying that guess what? I get Fail for the week! So this is the recap for the week and the goals for the coming week.

  1. One main goal: Work on intamacy with hubby. This was better, but with both of us fighting head colds (which thankfully the kids didn't get) not at the 3 times a week I would like, so back on the list. I think while I am at it I will try and pick a "date day" before the end of February too. Didn't get the date day picked but as soon as hubby gets his work schedule for the last week of February we will do this
  2. Make eye appointment for son
  3. Get the tires rotated
  4. Do the blog update on Tuesday. Or change this one to blog 3 times this week.

One thing I did get done this week was all of the paperwork for my daughters new preschool. She will go 3 days a week to the new one, one day a week to the old daycare and then be home with Daddy on Friday (he always has the kids one day a week since he has a "non traditional" work schedule). My daughter is so excited! I on the other hand, while excited for her, am sad! My little girl is growing so fast I just cant believe it. Kindergarden in the fall, I guess this is good practice for me to start letting go a little bit!

Everyone have a good week!

Focus Friday

Focus Friday

Here we are back at Focus Friday again! As you can see, my blogging this week wasn't so good, Friday, Wednesday, not quite enough! I will again add that to this week. So the update goes, smoking goes back as number one, I just can't seem to get motivated to get this done, I am sorry to disapoint both you and me!

  1. Charter school application - Done!
  2. Call two preschools to set up appointments to see them - Set up one and did a visit today, love it and signing up next week! So done!
  3. Magazines - Yes, lets shoot for reading 2 this week - Read one, pretty good for something that is not the first priority!
  4. Convert the boy's crib to a toddler bed. Done! Did this Saturday morning and he has been so a happy to be a "big boy"
  5. Sort out the to buckets. Done! I didn't take a picture because they still look the same, but they are more organized! All the balls in one bucket, all the playdough in one bucket etc.

So basically I am very happy with the week! I had the dentist appointment today that I scheduled 2 weeks ago and it wasn't as bad as I thought! Yea!

This week:

  1. One main goal: Work on intamacy with hubby. To be blunt (I can do that on my very own blog right?) More intamacy (sex) there I said it! at least 3 days this week. I guess when you get busy with kids, work, the house your relationship can hit the bottom of the list and I don't want it to be that way so once in a while it needs to be at the top of the list. I think while I am at it I will try and pick a "date day" before the end of February too.
  2. Make eye appointment for son (we are thinking lazy eye and want to get the professional opinion)
  3. Get the tires rotated
  4. Do the blog update on Tuesday.

Sounds like a good do-able week for me. How did your week go? I will be leaving comments tommorow as Saturday early is a good day for me to catch up on the blog thing...Until then, happy Friday!
