When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking

DSCN2024

WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T LOOKING

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you hang my
first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately
wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you feed a
stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind
to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make my
favorite cake for me, and I learned that the little
things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn't looking I heard you say a
prayer, and I knew that there is a God I could always
talk to, and I learned to trust in Him.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make a
meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I
learned that we all have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you take care
of our house and everyone in it, and I learned we have
to take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw how you
handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't
feel good, and I learned that I would have to be
responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw tears come
from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things
hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When your thought I wasn’t looking, I felt you kiss me goodnight, and I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw that you
cared, and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking I learned most of
life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and
productive person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking I looked at you and
wanted to say,'Thanks for all the things I saw when
you thought I wasn't looking'

Remember that Each of us (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, teacher, friend)
influences the life of a child.

How will you touch the life of someone today?
Speak kindly.

Take Me Back Tuesday ~1975

08-1975

Take me back to Summer vacation from 1975.  My parents always took us to Glenwood Springs for vacation.  We loved being able to swim in the hot sulfur springs pools and eat all our meals in restaurants!

Man, you just had to love the 70’s! What totally made me laugh about these pictures is the plaid pants.  I mean seriously, not only Dad but Brother too?!?!

Quotable Sunday

Welcome to another edition of Quotable Sunday! In light of the fact that it is back to school time, and for the first time I had a child join the ranks of school agers, I have put together a few quotes on Education and Learning.

My favorite quote of the week came from my daughter after I asked her late last week if she was liking Kindergarten. She said “they just make you do work all the time!”

This picture pretty much sums up her hesitancy about going to school on the first day. It did get easier for her later in the week. I am hoping this week she may even find something she enjoys!

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. ~ Benjamin Franklin

Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. ~ John Dewey

Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself. ~ Chinese Proverb

You can finish school, and even make it easy, but you never finish your education, and it is seldom easy. ~ Zig Ziglar

There is a brilliant child locked inside every student. ~ Marva Collins

Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire. ~ William Butler Yeats

Once children learn how to learn, nothing is going to narrow their mind. The essence of teaching to make learning contagious, to have one idea spark another. ~ Marva Collins

What we learn with pleasure we never forget. ~ Alfred Mercier

This little sweetie is of course my daughter at 6 months old!  Once again, where does the time go?  So you all know she started Kindergarten on Monday.  Yes, everything went fine, even though I didn’t really feel that the school had it all together in regards to what the Kindergarteners were supposed to be doing.  Just a small history on this, they expected about 45 kids and 90 registered!  I think they had to find a classroom and teacher in a very short time.  I really liked her teacher (she has a ton of experience) and she had a great time!  And me?  I only teared up about 10 times!

Quotable Sunday ~Kindergarten

In light of the fact that I will have, as of tomorrow morning, a Kindergartener, I thought I would post one of my favorite poems from Robert Fulghum.

DSCN2683 (2)

Everything I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten

Most of what I really need to know about how to live and what to do, and how to be, I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sandbox at nursery school.
These are the things I learned:

Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life.
Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of wonder.

Remember the little seed in the plastic cup? The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that. Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the plastic cup -- they all die. So do we.

And then remember the book about Dick and Jane and the first word you learned, the biggest word of all: LOOK.

Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and sane living.

Take any one of those items and extrapolate it into sophisticated adult
terms and apply it to your family life or your work or your government or
your world and it holds true and clear and firm. Think what a better world it would be if we all -- the whole world -- had cookies and milk about 3 o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankets for a nap. Or if we had a basic policy in our nation and other nations to always put things back where we found them and cleaned up our own messes.

And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out into the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.

~ Robert Fulghum ~

Take Me Back Tuesday ~Summer Vacation

I have really had a great time doing this MeMe.  Every week, on Monday night I remember I need to grab the photo album I borrowed took from my Mom and post a Take Me Back Tuesday Photo.  This usually leads to about an hour of flipping through my photos and remembering what my childhood was like.

Take Me Back to 1979!

Here we have my family!  My Brother, age 13, Mom, Dad and Me age 10.

I can’t believe this was 30 years ago!  We were in Estes Park for the day.  Strange thing is, that is where we just did a family camping trip to this weekend!  You so know that more camping photos of our family will be following.

Summer 1979

I  just can’t believe how young my parents looked!  My children will be saying that before I know it.

DSCN2642

Same area, but 30 years and different Children later!

The third child belongs to my friends Laurel and Andy, our beautiful Maggie!

(Please Visit Laurel’s Blog and tell her “Hi”  since she is brand new in the blogging world. Maggie And Me And The Brit).  Maggie will be making many guest appearances on my blog many times in the future!

How do you play along?

You must visit my beautiful friend Kari who says:

We all have tons of photos from the days before the digital camera. I figure if I just scan a few each week, eventually I will get them all safely into my computer.
Every week you can come back here and share photos that "take you back." Maybe it is the bad hair we all had in the 80's or the bell-bottoms you swore were so hip in the 70's. Whatever you want to share!

Going Camping!

Hubby has officially arrived home from Sturgis safe and sound!  (Thank you God).

The next 3 days we get family time.  We are heading out for our very first camping trip as a family.  Please wish us luck, I don’t have any idea what to expect from camping with a 3 year old and a 5 year old!

I do know the new sleeping bags were a big hit!

DSCN2618

I hope to schedule a Quotable Sunday post before I go, but if I don’t get to it, I know you will understand.  It has been a crazy week here around our busy house and I am so looking forward to our mini vacation.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Wordless Wednesday ~Earth Science Pictures

Whenever I feel a need to see some fantastic pictures I pop over to this website Earth Science Picture of the Day. Each day a different image or photograph is featured, with an accompanying caption, which deals with various topics in Earth Science. This is one I found a few months ago and is currently on my desktop at work!

Take Me Back Tuesday ~Kindergarten

Can someone please explain to me how it is possible this child will be going to Kindergarten in a little over a week?  I mean she was just born right??

Here is my Angel in August 2004

Taylor 8-6 1

Found in my archives my mom’s photo album a picture from my first day of Kindergarten as well!  I am sure my Mom is saying, how is it possible this little girl has her own child that is old enough to be going to Kindergarten?  (She actually said something just like that on the phone last night)!

Quotable Sunday

I have to apologize for not posting this sooner! I actually prepped it last night and then today, well I got busy and decided to take the morning off from blogging, or the day actually! But here I am anyway!

For those of you who haven’t been following my Tuesday posts, you may not know that my Hubby left for Sturgis yesterday. While I can certainly do without him for 5 days, it doesn’t mean I don’t miss him.

So I threw together a bunch of song lyrics that mean a lot to me and to him. Sorry, I know this post is huge! Below you will find the YouTube videos of the songs if you want to view any of them!

The first song is our wedding song. Hubby actually special ordered a music box for me that plays this!

Rod Stewart: Have I Told You Lately That I Love You

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one else above you
Fill my heart with gladness, take away all my sadness
Ease my troubles, that's what you do

He had me on this one after the first verse. I just love this song!

Peter Cetera: One Good Woman

I am so in love with you
I just cant deny it
Everybody knows I cant deny it
Everybody knows

You can read me like a book
Just like a fortune teller
Everybody needs a fortune teller
Telling you the very truth

You bring me feelings
You bring me fire
You give me love that's taking me higher
Just goes to prove
What one good woman can do

Um, yea. Most of the time I can't believe how lucky I am to sill be this much in love after all these years! This last verse of this song is where I hope to be in 20 or 30 years with him!

Shania Twain: Forever And For Always:

In your eyes I can still see
the look of the one who really loves me
The one who wouldn't put anything
else in the world above me
I can still see love for me in your eyes

And there ain't no way--
I'm lettin' you go now
And there ain't no way--
and there ain't no how
I'll never see that day....

Cause I'm keeping you
forever and for always
We will be together all of our day
Wanna wake up every
morning to your sweet face—always

I know you all don’t know my husband, but this song is him to a T. He is not much on words so most of the time I just know he love me by the look in his eyes. This Kieth Whitley song describes his ways very well!

Kieth Whitley: When You Say Nothing At All

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word, you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me
A touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

This song he gave to me long before we were married. He bought me the CD as a Christmas present, so I would always know he loved me, even if he didn’t say it out loud very much (see the previous song!)

Kieth Whitley: Tell Lorrie I Love Her

If I were alone in the desert
Without a drink of water around
With my knees and hands in that white scorching sand
With the hot Sahara, sun beating down
If I could be granted my wishes
Anything I want would come true
I know that it might sound funny
But here’s what I want you to do

Tell Lorie I love her
Tell Lorie I need her
Tell her everything would be ok if I could just see her
Tell Lorie I love her
Tell Lorie I need her
And If I leave this old world tell her she’s the only girl for me
