Quotable Sunday ~Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone! It is always nice to have that extra day off and to be able to spend some time with family and friends, which is what we will be doing today!

Having several Veterans in my family, this holiday always gets me thinking about how precious our freedom is, "if you like your freedom, thank a Veteran". Here are some thoughts and quotes related to Memorial Day.

Memorial Day, originally called "Decorations Day," is a national holiday that is celebrated on the last Monday in May. A day of remembrance, the tradition goes back to the end of the American Civil War when women put flowers on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers.

On this patriotic holiday, we honor servicemen and women who have died in war in the U.S. and every country where Americans are buried. We celebrate these people who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

"If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace." ~ John Lennon

And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free, and I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me. And I gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today. ‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land, God bless the USA. ~Lee Greenwood

Peace is more important than all justice; and peace was not made for the sake of justice, but justice for the sake of peace. -Martin Luther

The price of freedom is responsibility, but it's a bargain, because freedom is priceless. ~ Hugh Downs

If we are to reach real peace in the world, we shall have to begin with children. ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The greatest glory of a free-born people is to transmit that freedom to their children. -William Havard

Give Me Your Best Shot #1

I have been dying to jump in on this one for a while! I try not to post on to many meme's during the week because since I work I feel bad if I can't get around and spread comment love (not that I would do that at work or anything), but I took today off, so I am going to play.

These photo were shot 2 weekends ago and I decided to see what my action setting on my camera would do. These are straight out the camera shots and I am very pleased with them! I love catching the facial expressions when the kids don't know you are taking their pictures.

What I learned is too much zoom makes for blurry pictures and the lighting must be good because on the action setting the flash is no help on my camera!

If you have never been to visit Lolli at *Life is Sweet* you should. She is the host of Give Me Your Best Shot.

Wordless Wednesday - Happy Birthday Cutie Bug!

You turn 3 today! Where did the time go?

(May 2009)
You are my free spirited, snuggle bug

My sensitive yet independent child (age 2)

(First birthday)
My baby that didn't sleep through the night until you were 9 months old.
That taught us what colic was when you were 5 months old

(2 months)
But you stole my heart long before this first smile of yours.

Happy Birthday Baby, Mommy loves you!

Quotable Sunday ~Goals

My Angel turned 5 last week, and my baby boy turns 3 this week, where does the time go?

I have spent much time in the last few week reflecting on my own life and where I want to go in the future. It seems that the last five years have been a mix of daily survival and caring for the needs of small children, very normal and exactly the way I wanted these years to be!

I have come to the conclusion that now that my children are getting older, I must take some time to think about what I want to achieve over the next few years. An opportunity was dumped in my lap this week to do just that. I will keep you posted as to the outcome if and when it does happen.

I must now look to the future to be able to teach my children how to set their own goals and how to get on a path to achieve them.

~GOALS~

I want to be able to look back someday and say, "I did make a difference." Whether is was to open the minds of people to think that a woman can do a good job, or whether it's the fact that so many kids out there think that they could be like me. ~ Antonia Novello

A man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder. ~ Thomas Carlyle

Whoever wants to reach a distant goal must take many small steps. ~ Helmut Schmidt

Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal. ~ Ralph Vaull Starr

The ultimate goal should be doing your best and enjoying it. ~ Peggy Fleming

The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one. ~ Mark Twain

Always dream and shoot higher than you know how to. Don't bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself. ~ William Faulkner
