Take Me Back Tuesday

Take me back to July of 2004! Wow, is it really almost the 4th of July?? The upcoming holiday makes me remember dressing my sweet Angel up in her patriotic outfit!! It was one of my favorites for sure, and so was the cute grin she was learning to use! In these pictures, she is about 3 1/2 months old!

I thought it was about time to shake things up around here!

So pardon the dust, if you will as I tweak until I like it!

Have You Ever?

Have you ever, ever taken a chance on a friend?  A friend who has very little, and the little that is there bailed on him when he needed them the most?

How could I not?  The bikers have taught me about friendship, and brotherhood and love.  How could I not?

Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one. ~ Jane Howard

Where In the World Wednesday? The Carnival, That’s where

It must be getting close to the 4th of July, because Carnival fever is running ramped in my house!

Every year, during the last week of June, the Greeley Stampede rolls into town!  Billed as the world’s largest 4th of July Rodeo, the Bill Hames Carnival rolls right in with it!

We learned all about the carnival when we were 3.  Dubbed the “motorcycle” she rode this little ride about 6 times in a row!  No interest in anything else!

By the time brother was 3 we found the “real” motorcycles.  Too bad they aren’t having any fun!!

We also have a train

and an obstacle course that ends with the best slide ever!

As we speak, the Stampede and the carnival are being set up!  One very cool thing is, that I work across from the park where it is all held, and we get to watch them setting up all week!

I am sure next week I will have new pictures of what kind of chaos my 4 year old, and a 6 year old created at the carnival!  See then for the next Where in the World Wednesday!

Take Me Back Tuesday ~The Daddy

Take me back to June 6, 2006.  To that 6 week old baby with her Daddy!  I have a whole series of these pictures that I took with my old 35mm camera, you know the kind that you have to take the film out of to be developed!  This remains one of my favorite of that series.  Just seems fitting since it was just Father’s Day!

P.S. Can anyone tell me where this baby with the fat cheeks went?  A sassy 6 year old seems to have come and replaced her :-)2006-06 Dad and Taylor

A Day For Quotes ~Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to all the great Dads out there!  I have been very fortunate in my life to have had a wonderful Dad of my own, who passed away just over 2 years ago.  I also have the joy of watching my own husband be a wonderful Father to our 2 children.  Happy Father’s Day honey!

It's only when you grow up, and step back from him, or leave him for your own career and your own home—it's only then that you can measure his greatness and fully appreciate it. Pride reinforces love   ~Margaret Truman

A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty   ~Unknown

When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around.  But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.  ~Mark Twain

There's something like a line of gold thread running through a man's words when he talks to his daughter, and gradually over the years it gets to be long enough for you to pick up in your hands and weave into a cloth that feels like love itself.  ~John Gregory Brown

Where In The World Wednesday ~Our Own Park!

Two blocks down, and 2 block over is our neighborhood park!  Here are a bunch of reasons why we might love our park!

You might love your park if it has a tire like swing,

and Monkey bars when you are just learning!

100_0095

It might have an animal bouncer you love when you are 4.

Your brother loves when he is 3,

DSCN2742

and you can have an attitude on when you are 6!

DSCN3082

This park might have an awesome slide,

 DSCN3100

and a dinosaur climber you can boss your brother around on!

But Mom may love this park when she realizes she has taken some of her absolute favorite pictures ever at it!

Take Me Back Tuesday

Take me back to the “I must have a very small rodent as a pet” phase!

The year was 1979, I was 10 and my brother 13.  I am proudly displaying for you my Teddy Bear Hamster “Teddy”.  I lovingly raised Teddy from just a tiny little thing, he taught me many things including how to train him to be picked up, how to tell when he was sick and how to make sure he had food, water and a clean cage.  Sadly Teddy also taught me about death, as hamsters only live about 2 years.

In the second picture my Brother is holding our gerbil “Bernard”.  Where that name came from I don’t know!  Bernard was sweet for a gerbil, letting you hold him most of the time but still teaching you to watch out for those lethal teeth that could chomp into your fingers unannounced at any time!!

So do your kids have or have they had pets?  I know that will be coming for us some time soon!

   1979 July

Got some memories of you own posted??

A Day For Quotes #4

Poet and playwright William Butler Yeats (1865–1939) was born on this day in Sandymount near Dublin, Ireland, the son of portrait painter John Butler Yeats. Passionate and serious-minded, he published his first poem in 1885.

A founder and director of Dublin's Abbey Theatre and member (1922–28) of the Irish senate, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1923. He was considered one of the most important poets of the 20th century.

Here are some quotes by Yeats for your enjoyment today!

Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire. ~ William Butler Yeats

Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that but simply growth, We are happy when we are growing.

I have spread my dreams under your feet tread softly, because you tread on my dreams.

In dreams begin responsibility.

The innocent and the beautiful Have no enemy but time. ~ William Butler Yeats

Where In The World Wednesday ~Estes Park

Estes Park, Colorado!

One of our favorite family vacation destinations, we live about an hour and 20 minutes from this secenic mountain town! Estes Park is known for its large quanity of specialty shops and nearness to Rocky Mountain National park, where the snow on the Longs Peak mountain is currently melting (more on this in a minute!)

100_0058

Just last month we took a few days off and stayed there. The above picture is from in front of our hotel!

There are cabins near the river you can stay in, and horseback (or pony) riding to thrill any 2 year old! (Fall of 2008)

If you are into camping, there a ton of nice places to do that too! They might even have a swingset where you can push your brother, and stand in front of a mountain at the same time!! (Summer 2009)

estes park1

The Big Thompson River also runs through Estes Park. The above photo from early this week is from a spot I was standing 2 weeks ago!! I am sure glad that we are not there right now! The snow, as I said earlier, is melting off the mountains, apparently at a rate faster than normal and the river is very high. The water under this bridge should be about 3 or 4 feet lower than it is!!

Have somewhere exciting to tell us about?? Stop on over to Lemon Drop Pie and let us know!
