Take Me Back Tuesday ~1998 Not Our Best Year

Do you ever wonder why you have a blog? Because sometimes I do. I look back at the fact that I got dragged in for the giveaway entries! I mean you get extra entries for blogging about a giveaway and posting buttons…oh and don’t even get me started about twitter.

I think what I am trying to say is hey, it is so easy when you blog to show what a perfect life you have. It is so easy isn’t it? To post picture of your perfect children, and your perfect life. You have time for everything when you have a blog right?

Today, in Take Me Back Tuesday I give you a down side of our life. The year 1998. We didn’t have children then, but we had each other, and God decided to give us a true test, the biggest test of our lives.

Once upon a time my husband’s hands shook, I mean like all the time, and we didn’t know why. So he went to the doctor and they said it was because his cholesterol was to high, or something basic like that! We asked to see a Neurologist. They gave us the reference (had to have that for the insurance company don’t you know).

The Neurologist did an MRI, and they found a tumor, yes I just said tumor, at the base of his brain. That is why his hands shook. They were shocked that he wasn’t dizzy all the time, that he wasn’t blacking out!

Four days later we were at the hospital for brain surgery. The tumor was benign, we knew that all along. But my friends, Brain Surgery was well….brain surgery. The doctor (one of the best if the field we would come to find out later) cut into the top of my husband’s head, went down between the 2 lobes of his brain, and cut out the tumor.

What followed was a very quick physical recovery, and a very long short term memory loss recovery. I hate to leave anyone hanging, but just writing about the short term memory lost stage would take about 3 post’s in it’s self, and this one is getting way to long as it is!!

The pictures I give you are from the night before surgery. We knew that for the doctor to do what she had to do, they would shave Hubby’s head in 20 different places, so we saved her the trouble and our friend B came down with his razor and shaved him the night before:

1998 Tony Surgery 1 Hey, if you have to have your head shaved, you may as well play around right?? Hence the Mohawk!

1998 Tony Surgery 2

A true friend in life, is one that will shave his head when he knows you are going to be shaving yours too right?

“How do you play along? We all have tons of photos from the days before the digital camera. I figure if we just scan a few each week, eventually they will all be safely into our computers. But you don't need a scanner to participate! - Just find a photo that takes you back to another time. Every week you can come back here and share photos that "Take you Back." If you decide to participate, sign the Linky below and I promise to head on over and spread some comment love your way!”

That certainly is a true friend. Wow, that must have been a scary time. I am sure it made both of you stronger. They say, everything happens for a reason, but brain surgery! Wow!

I started a blog for similar reasons...it has turned into so much more.

What an ordeal!! How scary. What a wonderful friend your husband has to be there for him like that.

No matter what kind of tumor it is, brain surgery is scary! My mom had short term memory loss after she had radiation on her brain, and she was never the same after that. I'm so glad that you and your hubby survived all that, and then went on to have a couple of kids! Now that's a happy ending.

I know what you mean about the time it would take to write it all. This is such a lifetime ordeal.

I'm so glad he had a great friend and that his recovery was quick.

I can only imagine how it was. Brain tumor is plain scary.

Thank you for sharing.
